How do you get to Milford Sound?

What flight path will I take from Queenstown to Milford Sound?

You will fly over some exquisite landscapes on your journey from Queenstown to Milford Sound / Piopiotahi. Depending on the flight route for the day, your sights may include; Skippers Canyon, Glenorchy, Mount Earnslaw, Mount Tutoko, Milford Sound / Piopiotahi, Mitre Peak, Arthur Valley, Sutherland Falls, the Milford Track, Lake Te Anau, Eglinton Valley, Greenstone Valley and Lake Whakatipu.

What happens if my flight is cancelled due to the weather?

We ask all guests to call 1hr 15mins before the departure time for your weather check. If we are unable to fly due to adverse weather conditions, we will contact you to reschedule to the next available trip that suits you. If you cannot reschedule then you will receive a full refund. We always recommend that you book for the start of your time in Queenstown to allow for any weather disruptions.

Can I fly back to Queenstown from Milford Sound?

Absolutely! You can upgrade your return journey from Milford Sound with a scenic flight back to Queenstown (weather permitting). You can book this prior to your trip or on the day of travel through your coach driver, note that availability is limited. This option gives you the chance to experience the dramatic landscapes of Fiordland and the Southern Alps from above - think towering peaks, alpine lakes, and deep valleys.

Are there any natural hazards and risks I should be aware of when visiting Milford Sound?

Piopiotahi Milford Sound is one of the world's most spectacular environments, and it comes with natural hazard risk. A large earthquake or tsunami is extremely unlikely during your visit, especially a short one. Even so, these hazards do pose a risk to life, and once you are there, your options to stay safe are limited.

What to do: If an earthquake feels LONG or STRONG, Get GONE. Move up and away from waterways (the fiord and rivers) as quickly as possible. If you see or hear a landslide, do the same.
