Discover the magic of Doubtful Sound on an unforgettable overnight cruise. Journey deep into Fiordland National Park, surrounded by towering mountains, lush rainforest and cascading waterfalls. Explore the fiord, spot wildlife and spend a night immersed in one of New Zealand’s most remote wilderness areas.
Your overnight cruise experience
The journey to Doubtful Sound
Your adventure begins with a 45–60 minute cruise across Lake Manapouri, followed by a scenic coach journey over Wilmot Pass. Travel through dense rainforest before arriving at Deep Cove, where your overnight cruise vessel and crew await. Read our guide to How to Get to Doubtful Sound to find out more.
Explore the fiord
Step aboard the Fiordland Navigator or Wanderer, traditional scow-style vessels combining old-world charm with modern comforts, including spacious viewing decks, comfortable lounges and a fully licensed bar.
Cruise through spectacular scenery while our knowledgeable nature guides share insights into the fiord's unique wildlife, history and natural environment. Keep an eye out for dolphins, fur seals and rare penguins along the way.
Activities on the water
After anchoring in a sheltered cove, get closer to nature with a guided kayaking or tender boat excursion. Feeling adventurous? You may even have the chance to take a refreshing swim in the fiord. Or simply relax onboard and soak up the scenery.
All water activities are weather-dependent. Children under 10 years old are not permitted to participate in kayaking.
Dinner and a night on the fiord
As evening falls, enjoy a delicious buffet dinner featuring a selection of hot dishes, salads, desserts and cheeses.
Relax with a drink from the licensed bar, chat with fellow travellers or head out onto the deck for some stargazing if the skies are clear.
